Nyingma Tersar

Buddhist Community

Nyingma Tersar is one of the precious legacies of Kyabjé Dungse Shenphen Dawa Norbu Rinpoche. It has been established as a nationwide religious community with full recognition of the Spanish government. Its purpose is to contribute to the flourishing of Dharma and the Dudjom Tersar lineage in Spain.

The community offers teachings from qualified teachers, organizes meditation and practice retreats of varying lengths, and translates into Spanish and Catalan sadhanas and other Dharma texts. In addition, it puts its effort into improving the rights of Spanish Buddhist practitioners. One of the results of this work is the collaboration in the agreement between the Federation of Buddhist Communities of Spain and Parcesa Funeral Home, signed in 2015 at the Ministry of Justice. This document provides a legal framework and coverage for Buddhists from all over Spain, who can now request funeral services and treatment, upon death, according to Buddhist tradition. Moreover, the community participates in numerous public events which contribute to the visibility and acceptance of Buddhism and its normalization in our society, and it is also present in interreligious dialogue activities that foster harmony between the different religions which coexist in Spain.

Nyingma Tersar is the auspicious result of a long way towards the establishment of the Dudjom Tersar lineage in Spain. The first step was made in 1988 with the creation of Yeshe Nyingpo Cultural Association, based in Barcelona. Later, in 1995, the Shenphen Tersar Dzong Religious Association was founded and new centers were created. The Association had a greater range of recognition by the government of Spain. Finally, in 2011 it was possible to create the Nyingma Tersar Buddhist Religious Community, established as a state-level religious community with its own legal standing and full capacity to act, under the organic law 7/1980, of July 5th, on religious freedom, and Royal Decree 142/1981, of January 9th.

Nyingma Tersar is a member of the Spanish Federation of Buddhist Entities and the Catalan Coordinator of Buddhist Entities.

After Kyabjé Dungse Shenphen Dawa Norbu Rinpoche’s mahaparinirvana, Nyingma Tersar is under the direction of his son and Dharma heir, His Eminence Dungse Namgay Dawa Rinpoche. His generosity in continuing the work that his father started for the flourishing of the Dharma cannot be repaid.
